Removable brace
Is the metal wire of your removable brace broken?
Do not wear the brace and make an appointment with the practice to have it repaired.
If the brace doesn’t cause pain, continue wearing it. However, contact the practice and make an appointment for the repair.
Splint
Call or email the practice to make an appointment. Do not throw away the wire; bring it with you to your appointment! Continue wearing the night guard properly, preferably during the day as well.
Fixed Braces
A separation elastic is intended to create space between the molars. If a separation elastic has come off, contact the practice for advice.
There is an elastic on each side. It’s not a problem if one of the two elastics comes off. If both elastics come off, contact the practice.
Call or email the practice to make an appointment.
If the wire end is poking, you can cut the wire behind the closest bracket with pliers, a large nail clipper, or sharp nail scissors. Then contact the practice to make an appointment.
If it’s not bothering you much, you can leave the bracket in place. If the loose bracket causes discomfort, cover it with a ball of the wax provided or sugar-free chewing gum. It’s better to stop wearing elastics then. Call or email the practice for a repair appointment. Don’t wait until your next scheduled appointment, as there won’t be enough time to fix it then.
Always contact the practice so we can schedule extra time! Keep the bracket and bring it with you so it can be reattached.
Place a ball of wax (or sugar-free chewing gum) over it. Or cut the wire end that’s poking into your cheek behind the closest bracket with pliers, a large nail clipper, or sharp nail scissors. Contact the practice to make an appointment.
Make an appointment to have the band reattached. If the band has completely come off the tooth and the wire is poking into your cheek, cut the wire end behind the closest bracket (see above).
If one or both bite-turbos have come off, contact the practice to make an appointment.
Try to open your mouth as wide as possible and place the telescope back into the tube. If this doesn’t work, call or email the practice for an appointment.
You can easily put the spring back yourself: open your mouth as wide as possible and push the spring (the upper part) in with one hand. With the other hand, slide the push rod back in. If you cannot put the spring back yourself, temporarily secure the loose parts with an elastic band or floss. Contact the practice to make an appointment.
Keep brushing the part of the appliance causing pain, despite the discomfort. You can apply some wax or sugar-free chewing gum to soothe the irritation. Rinsing with salt water promotes healing of the irritated cheek. If pain persists, contact the practice on the next working day.
